What have I just eaten?
Discussion
It was from the Chinese.
It was flat, orange, battered.
Each piece was approx half palm size. There were several pieces.
Inside the consistency of cheese? (I'm not entirely sure I want to know...)
Inside was white.
It was in a sauce, sweet and sour chilli flavour, again orange.
There were vegetables. Peppers, Carrots, Cauliflower.
It was bland. Not chicken, not beef.
I didn't order it, I didn't pay for it.
I don't know what it was and neither do my fellow diners?!?
I don't know if I liked it or not.
I'm dubious.

You ate Tofu.
Harmless.
In fact it is so astonishingly harmless that the whole point of it is to act as a platform that allows you to eat the sauce it comes in. It is "beancurd" IIRC and is a perfectly wholesome vegetarian-friendly product.
It tastes of nothing and has a texture that makes it suitable as a food for people with no teeth.
Personally I prefer the Indian equivalent: "Paneer". At least that is a sort of "cheese". Sort of. A little. It's not bad covered in enough Ghee and oodles of spinach in "Saag Paneer".

By the way: I rather like your work. It has the appeal of "naive" artists but I guess from the more representational stuff you've done you are formally trained.
As a heads-up to other PHers - visit Gretchen's site for a perusal of her work. It's worth it.
I already have a collection larger than I have room for..else I'd be shopping...

I'd take credit for it, but it's not of my hand.As a heads-up to other PHers - visit Gretchen's site for a perusal of her work. It's worth it.

Thanks all the same, i'll be sure to pass the comments on to the artist herself (my best friend).
And you're right, it's well worth visiting.
