Next years Le Mans for a newbie

Hi,

After reading all the Le Mans threads over the last week or so, I'm desperate to get to go next year.

I've been reading a lot of negative things about the atmosphere and the chavs that were at Le Mans last weekend. Should this put me off going next year?

Are there any threads on here for Virgin Le Mans go'ers? Any tips on where might be best to go next year?

To enable the responses to be pitched correctly can you say why you want to go and what other motorsport events have you been to this year and last year?

There were the same rantings last year mate and still we all went again. And will do again next year too! Do your research is the best advice I could give. At the end of the day with over 250,000 people in one small area bad things will inevitably happen. Gutted for those that got their cars keyed or had things stolen but it's going to happen anywhere. You can't filter the undesirable elements out as much as you may want to!

We all love going and every year is different and excellent in its own right. You'll love it and return again and again without a doubt.

I'm mostly a rally man but try to get over to Knockhill as often as possible to watch touring cars, GT racing etc. Just about any motorsport is up my street!!

Want to go to get some of the atmosphere, see the sights, hear the noises and have a good time!! Guessing thats what everyone eles goes for?!

I think you,ve got an initial first decision to make...decide where you want to fit in , ie do you want to stay trackside or nearby with all the noise but the convenience of being nearby or retreat to a more sedate campsite/accomodation further away in which case one of you has to drive every day but you have the relaxation factor , we even had a large swimming pool on our site with bar , washrooms , showers etc etc

For convenience camp, it's easier than travelling to/from hotel all of the time and you get the full atmosphere/experience.
My fav campsite is Maison Blanche. Very convenient for track, stands etc and easy to get in/out when you want to drive somewhere. Allocated pitches this year too so space guaranteed and not too rowdy if you want to get some sleep!

Get there by Thurs PM to catch qualifying. This will also give you all of Friday to either drive into France for a fab lunch (my preference) or hang around the circuit if you want to .... but that's when you run the risk of bumping into the chavsters.
Friday eve stay at campsite and have big BBQ or head into town for divers parade.

Sunday get a hotel slightly north of Le Mans (book early!) to eat, sleep and refresh ready for drive back monday.

Tickets for race are down to preference and budget. I favour seats on the main straight, furthest right handside the better - good views of start/finish, somewhere to easily meet rest of your group and shelter from heat/rain, you can see a big screen and see the cars coming into pits, Ford Chicane etc. General admission tickets, which come with your seat, allow access everywhere else but can be tiring and your always exposed to the elements.
Make sure you get to the far side of circuit (Mulsanne and Arnage corners) at night.

Ive been for thre years running, stayed on Houx, I know there are some chavs and there are a few that really dont go for the race but nothing,nothing will stop me going every year. The racing is what its all about. In fact Im sat here thinking about next year already and wondering how the last week has gone by so quickly. I drove down alone this year and it was awesome.
