400 body only?

After advice given in a previous thread, should I be thinking of buying a 400D body only, as I understand the standard lense is not that great. I have lenses from my EOS 650, how do these compare with what is available now?

I was buying from scratch when i got my 400D with 18-55mm lens

If i was to buy again i would have waited, and bought body only , Not because of any major failings of the kit lens. Mainly due to what i decided i liked taking pics of.

I don't see the point of trying to buy the body only when for an extra 5-10 quid you can get the 18-55 lens ??

Sometimes you can even find it cheaper WITH the standard lens !!

18-55 (old one)_ isnt terrible, its not great either, but tis worth it if you dont have anything else.

I missed out on it cause I had one to borrow and bought the 50mmf1.8 instead - but its well worth getting if you've nothing else, as its almost free.
