I’m no fan of him but that is sooo ignorant. a) He’s a French Canadian so French is his first language not English (so I very much doubt it was crap French either) and b) he was in France. So why shouldn’t he speak French?

That's always struck me as being an odd record - a world championship of many events, plus two one off races. Why not the Indycar series title, the Daytona 500 and the Daytona 24 hours ? Or even Le Mans, Daytona 24 hours and Sebring 12 hours ?Nick M said:

Would we have begrudged Mario Andretti this a few years back? Does anyone hate Tom Kristensen for beating Ickx's record? Jacques was great in Indycar and made a huge impression in his first years in F1. In many ways his F1 career mirrored that of Emerson Fittipaldi and we don't base his career on his years in the Copersucar, do we?
And personally I would be glad to see another manufacturer win at La Sarthe. If it wasn't for the circumstances of this year's race, an Audi victory would have been the worst thing for the event. As it was down to the drivers this time round I'm happy. Otherwise you may as well turn the place into an Audi theme park and that would be my personal vision of hell!

we were standing right under the podium after the race, and i could not help myself but point at the aforementioned french-canadian toss bag and go AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Glad McNish won though, even if it did mean another Audi victory. Plus, he gave us a good old soaking with the champagne!
