The pictures are mahoosive 3888 x 2592 pixels, but only 72dpi. So when I go to crop them or anything, it all goes to kak! What am I missing?!
just alter the dpi figure in the crop tool an ddont worry too much about it! Sometimes the dpi is misrepristented in the exifThe pictures are mahoosive 3888 x 2592 pixels, but only 72dpi. So when I go to crop them or anything, it all goes to kak! What am I missing?!
I must be realllly thick today!! The data for the pic shows 72 dpi, fine for screen. But if I crop the picture or anything, it gets hugely pixelated.
I will say though that I've just printed the picture on full A4 (without cropping or anything) and it prints fine. I'm bloody confused!

are you using PS? What it is doing is reading the dpi as 72 then when you are cropping it is converting to 72 (I am sure the 350 shoots at 350dpi). In the crop tool (assuming it is PS) you will see an option that says front image, click that. It will ensure your crop will be in proportion. One of the boxes will show the current dpi, set this to 350 and give it a whirlI will say though that I've just printed the picture on full A4 (without cropping or anything) and it prints fine. also it could just be a case of when you are cropping the image is zooming in, try the image zoom sliders to zoom out, you may find the image i fine its just zeroed in on the original selection area
Just to wade in here after the fact.
DPI is utterly meaningless on a computer screen. 3000px wide is 3000px wide regardless of what DPI setting you have.
DPI only becomes a factor when you are printing - then it's the number of pixels per inch, so a 3000px picture at 300dpi will print 10" wide.
So it really shouldn't make any difference what the DPI setting is unless you are printing. Cropping 150px out of a 3000px image will be the same regardless.
