Hi

New to this forum but wondering if anyone could suggest a camera that can do a time elapse.. i.e. take a picture every 30 seconds, would be good if it could do video straight to PC too! don't want to spend the earth on it as its for one function so answers on a postcode!

Thanks in advance

I think my Ricoh Caplio R6 has this feature, but I'm not near it at the moment. Try a search for that first.

Most Canon IXUS models work with the Canon Remote Capture software. Google for that and you should find a list of Canon cameras that work. Obviously for video, you don't need a brand new high end camera - you only need a resolution of 1 MP or a bit more.

The Nikon Coolpix P5100 I've just ordered has a mode where it'll take a picture every few seconds and compile them all into a movie on the camera. I'm not sure how much freedom it gives you to play with the interval though, and I think the output is only 640x480 pixels.

Plenty of free / shareware time lapse tools that will work with a webcam out there. I downloaded one last year to do somthing similar to the Suez Canal clip above, except it was a narrowboat not a cargo ship! Didn't take the laptop in the end as the car was jammed with other ste.
