Which one should I get and where from?

Looking at something like this:

http://www.camerapricebuster.com/Canon_EOS_450D_+_...

local person in London can do it for £450-469, is there anything else that would suit me like this?

Budget is about £550 including lens.

I'd go for a 400d and spend some extra money on glass etc.

I had a crack with my mates 450d the other day and I cant see the reason for spending more on one of those than a 400d.

Have you held and played with a D-SLR before?

I did before choosing...and changed my mind from a 350D to a refurb'd 20D - slightly bigger (easier to hold/use - 350D just felt too small), better-built, and a few more features that in all honesty I probably won't need much.

Until 30 June if you buy a 40D Canon will give you £100 back (albeit about 6-8 weeks later). So a body-only will cost you £500, or AJ Purdy were doing some quite decent 'sets' which you may want to look at. But it IS going to be tight to your budget.

Alternatively Kerso on e-bay (someone will remind me of his e-bay company name) does some good deals off- and on-line.

Last point - you'll probably want 2 lenses, or one with a bigger range than 18-55. Which will probably blow your budget completely...

I'd go for the 400D with kit lens, 50mm f1.8 lens and one other zoom lens (maybe an 18-200 sigma). If you are willing to carry one get a tripod or if not a gorillapod. smile Also remember to pickup a few cheap 4gb memory cards.

Love my 400D which is my first SLR - just make sure you get as much practice as you can before you go.wink
