I am thinking of purchasing a mountain Bike, looking to spend between £200- £300 max. A few people have recommended a Specialized Hardrock. How good is this particular model? Any other recommendations.

The EvansCycles website has the 2007 Hrdrock sport for £229.99...would this be a good choice? It will only be for occasional use during the summer months.

Thanks for any advice.

If your in Bristol you won't be able to get it from their shop.

I went to them this morning with the intention of getting a Specialized Hardrock, I also saw them on the website and thought I'd pop into the shop on the off chance they have one in stock. Apparantly, due to competition, they're not allowed to stock them in the shop, they have to be ordered.

Good bikes though, my old one was everything I needed for a decent price.

See my therd about MTB tyres somewhere here abouts

I've got one 2-3 years old apart from the tyre problems I'm currently suffering and I know new rubber is in order soon I've not done/spent anything on the bike at all not even brake blocks! (It's the basic v-brake model)
It must be a good basic strong bike I bought on recommendation from someone in the know!I say STRONG I weigh 21 stones the planned weight loss from cycling doesen't appear to be happening but I still enjoy it!

I've got an '07 model Hardrock disc and it's great. The shocks aren't the best but for the price you cant complain...

Thats possible because the new Specialized centre is now open in Brizzol, and therefore it's better business for Evans to concentrate on their other brands.

RRP prices for all new bikes are going to be within a few quid of each other in the stores. Might be sounding like a scratched record, but a Hardrock Pro might be possible used on ebay, or maybe even a rock hopper.

This is nice with some good upgrades, but likely to sneak above your budget

This is nearly identical to the hardrock I used to have, and they look great in white. For your budget and usage, don't get too hung up about it having rim brakes. They'll be fine.

This is one to watch, and should come it about your budget

...and finally.

I agree on the forks, RST Guila T7s? I'm going to upgrade them soon. Probably getting some Rockshox Dart 3s.

For your budget its a good buy no doubt. If you get into certain disciplins like single track or dirt jumping it wont last very long.
The cable disks are rubbish.

I do singletrack a lot and mine has never gone wrong, although I use a Hayes So1e Hydraulic brake system.
