So although the bridge has long since paid for itself and is now supposed to be free, those Dartford crossing doughnuts have decided to raise the cost for cars by 50p to £1.50 to reduce congestion.

The payback is that the bridge will be free to use during the night (10pm-6am).

I'm sure thousands of motorists will be prepared to arrive at their destination many hours before they need to and that people will hang around at work till gone 10pm so they can avoid the £1.50 toll.

Morons.

You should know by now that the solution to every problem in this country at the moment is to tax it. When there's huge amounts of money being made it's no longer a problem.

As a resident of Thurrock I will only be charged 20p per crossing according to the offical bumph that dropped through my door a while ago. Sounds good.....wait for it.....

whistle

I have to log on to the council web site and trawl through it to the relevant page where I can then apply and pay "a deposit" for an automated fee paying thingy that will live in my car. I believe I have to pay a wedge up front to start with and then top up my balance as and when necessary.

Justifying the increase as a move to reduce congestion is so insulting to the intelligence of those people who use the tunnel, it beggars belief.

How about taking away all of the barriers that cause drivers to stop in the first place? Crazy idea I know!

Moving away from a simple round pound fee will undoubtedly increase the time at the barrier too.

I despair.

Agree with the above. As to however it is thats annoyed that they have to get a tag to get their discount I sincerely hope you arent one of those blind drivers who cant see the tagged cars only arrow over the tagged lane. The barrier raises faster on a tag as it doesnt need to work out if you have given enough change and if there is a line of tagged cars the barrier stays up.

Hate the idiots who use the tagged lane and chuck in a coin slowing it down.

I don't think I've seen the sign for tagged drivers only for years. It used to be the barrier on the far right didn't it? That just has the normal auto toll cars only sign over it whenever I go through now.

Oh dear God.

Why oh why oh whybanghead

Can someone calculate the cost of traffic (and a lot of it is freight) queuing EVERY morning and evening to get through the tolls on both sides. Plus the fact its already paid for.

I live in London so it is against my human rights to impose a tax should I wish to travel north, I'm going to the EU courtrolleyes

Hang on, its OK I'll go through the Blackwall tunnel. Thats only clogged up from 6am now because they got rid of the tidal flow...

I despair.

Its not a dedicated lane though like it used to be. You can still drive up to the ShartTag lane with a quid and get through.

Personally I think anyone attempting this, thus getting in my way should be thrown into the riverhehe

That is such a stupid idea it is almost retarded.

So now.

£1.50

That's 2 coins twice as long chuck in the pot and register the coins.

No change given.

Even if less people use the crossing it will be offset buy the amount of time wasted fking about with coins.

Beggars belief.....

True. I got really Peed off one day and wrote an email to dart tag asking if it was possible to make it a dedicated tag only lane Ie remove the coin slot) and or replace it with a credit card machine with a min charge of £5 for anyone using it obviously those with a tag the balance would be credited those without would not hence discouraging the use of the tag lane by untagged cars.

They responded by saying they had looked at making it dedicated but are not allowed to do so.
So F ing annoying. Esp when theres some muppet who decides to use it and then cant find the right change so either sits there for a few minutes looking for the change or has to go get the right change from a kiosk or the other who decides to drop the coin and then has to get out the car and look for it.

I'm not blind. I've been aware of the Dart Tag only lanes previously, just not recently.

I know this for an absolute fact because I often use the right most lane as it's generally shorter, and I never used it when the overhead gantry had the dart tag only sign on it.

I only use the crossing at the weekend and occasionally off peak on week days, maybe it's a timed thing?

Just googled 'dart tag only lane' and the first hit was a previous PH post smile

second hit was THIS LINK which is a QA thing with Le Crossing who manage the crossing.

See Q2 - there is no dart tag only lane. So get over it dart taggers.
