My indicator switch (Escort Mk3) began to fail last week, but I now have an unused replacement. They also stock the wiper/lights switch.

From previous threads there was some confusion as to the donor car for the light switch with the Mk3 escort switch not being quite right. Do we have a positive id for the light switch?

Ford changed the switches slightly during the lifetime of the donor car. The indicator switch has a different angle on the stalk, so that the arm is a bit further away from the steering wheel than the original (although I prefer this). The hazard switch red cover is shorter, but can be swopped for the original. The fittings and electrical connections are unchanged.

It is possible that the wiper/lights switch has a similar mod.

Roy is correct wrt the indicator stalk, but the lights and wiper stalk was not changed and is identical. Also if you buy an indicator stalk without the offset it is easy to change the arm over to the new electrical connection part, a bit of careful use of the screwdriver to lever apart and remembering where the springs go is all thats needed

From my experience I would say that its very difficult to strip any of these switches. I have quite recently stripped and rebuilt an indicator switch for my S and there are many many small parts and springs. I managed to re-assemble and get it working but it was by guess and by GD.

Further the indicator arm is not transferable. The original switch has the horn switch operated by an flexable link from the button. Havent recorded part number sorry, see below:



While the newer type (as supplied by new Ford Parts I know becuase I got one to solve a problem - which it didnt so watch out for an indicator switch on ebay) has the switch under the button and a pair of wires going to the switch body (part number 81AG613B302AA). As you rightly say can be a direct swap both connectors and fitting identical to original, see below:

The one on the right is the original and the one on the left a common replacement. If you fit the replacement type is is a straight swap for the original EXCEPT the light switch arm needs heating and bending towards the steering wheel to avoid fouling the dashboard.

Original type part number is 83BG11K6658A, replacement VO32031(?)

There must be three types then because the ones I bought off ebay have the straight arm but horn operated by the flexi tube and the light switch is offset and clears the dash ok. I did strip and swaps arms but then found my problem wasn't associated with this but with the indicator cancelling ring on the shaft that was off center - corrected now and swapped arms back to original

Gosh it seems evry S ever built is unique, minor point some of the switches are screwed together and others rivited it would be difficult i think to re-rivet.

The Escort Mk3 was produced for around 6 years (I had one in the mid 80's - the one with all the extra warning lights that went wrong! ), so it's not surprising that Ford fiddled with it. The parts fit, but not quite in the way the originals do.

Hi, I've just stumbled upon this thread by accident. The original switch that you have pictured above with the code 83BG11k665BA (finnis code 6096400) is actually one from a mk1 Sierra and not a mk3 escort. It's quite possible that this could also be the case with the indicator stalk. If there are any numbers on the orignal type you are looking for I can confirm it for you.
