Unloading at an auction on Friday & spot this, rear view on, blimey I think, there is some nice stuff here but not quite to that level- I mean whats a GTO nowadays £6m?? nice metal there but nothing else was near that value.
Ok so not the real thing but other than real Ferrari Anorakisti, from the front & rear is bloody near eh? side profile ok maybe roof line would give it away.
Dont normally go for reps but blimey I did like this a lot.

That to me looks like a Datsun Z-Car Kit with an age related plate, trying to make it look like a 65 car!
The C-Pillar is the dead give away!
The "proper" GTO's C-Pillar is elongated compared to the Datsun kits. Also the GTO has a more of a wrap around rear windscreen compared to the flatter on on the Datsun.

I can't imagine how much work that took, the Z based 250 that used to live in Derby had dog rough glassfibre.

The air intakes are correct, its just got the panels in. The roof line is slightly too high as it goes over the rear window thus creating problems from there back. The back is a bit too square.
The wheels let it down badly, if they'd invested in some proper borani's and sorted the rear out, it could make all the difference.

I had a good look at this car when it was auctioned on Sunday at the H&H sale in Loseley Park, Surrey.
I checked out the paperwork in detail, as I was interested in bidding on it. I can confirm that it's a Z car based replica with an engine from a TVR Chimaera(!), but registered on the V5 as 'Ferrari Coupe'. To be honest it looked really good and came with a huge ring binder full of photos and receipts from the build (which took about 10 years from what I could see!).
Anyway, the car ended up going for a ridiculous 19k (+10% buyer's commission and VAT). Not a big suprise though as a lot of the other cars there went for crazy money, averaging 20-30% over top estimate. I go to the classic auctions regularly and have never seen bidding like that before!

Why go to that much effort and then put the wrong engine in? I have a feeling I know which car this is and I was told a BMW V12 would fit in. Even an Alfa V6 would have been more in keeping. I really don't understand it - someone's obviously gone to a lot of trouble in all other respects, but Ferraris of that era were all about the engine. I just don't get it.
