thank you for taking your time to write to me. My name is Jimmy and i have thought about owning a Esprit all my live, i have saved most of my money to accomplish this dream, i have been educating myself on everything concerning this dream car. Can you please give me your input about the Esprit.(ex. what were the major problems you had, what kind of driver are you, honestly what kind of treatment did you give to your Esprit,etc..because so far everything i hear is negative things, which also gets me sad after so many years of dreaming. any comments good and bad will be appreciated, thanks.

er.....I have no idea what happened there - but it wasnt intended! I have a V8 too (and have had a turbo) I drive mine fast, but not particularly hard (I hate making engines scream) troubles...exhaust manifold went (crap design, well known problem)...erm, hit a brick on the road, (but that isnt the cars fault) - thats it really! handles like nothing on earth, very fast, looks sensational...gets driven more than my Lambo cos its a little easier to get on with all the time. only downsides are that buying one isnt the same as keeping one running....any little thing that happens wil still cost a reasonable sum of money to fix! please feel free to ask any specific questions cheers Night

Nightmare, You have a Lambo and a Mantis too? I had an 'Anniversary' Countach; made a wonderful noise but was HELL to drive. Currently got a Supercharged Mantis 'S500 BHP', fan-mega-tastic to drive.

Had an Esprit Sport 350. Not the stongest of cars and I believe despite the amazing handling it is flawed in quite a few ways. 1. Lack of place to secure harnesses unless you fit a roll cage (according to lotus engineering) 2. Gearbox limits engine power as it is only rated to 350bhp where engine easily will put out over 450bhp 3. Driveshafts are weak, I snapped three in the time I had the car 4. Clutch weak, 7000 miles for a clutch is not normal even in a sportscar. 10-12000 maybe but 7!! Apart from that love it! Handling fantastic and gorgeous sound with cat bypass pipes and straight through silencers.

Ah! the things you have heard about Esprits...probably all true! Like nightmare, i too have too many cars, from a Ford Focus to a Lola canAm car- they are all wonderful and they all suck in their own ways. The Lotus, quite like a Ferrari, has that something 'special' that makes it a blast to own and drive. It will brake, it will blow up, it will leave you stranded, it will leak, it will shake, it will rattle and it will get chicks. Other than the above, its a blast and it does get you into the American Express Platinum card bracket...you'll need it! Nevertheless, Esprits of any vintage are wonderful and fun cars to own. Quit dreaming and buy one! Victor www.sweuro.com
