So not too long ago I was enjoying the only nebula black Tamora, driving it with a permanent smile from ear to ear. With its sports exhaust sounding incredible, the speed frightening and even the missus smiling things couldn't really have got any better. Then the missus decided she wanted a bigger house, so we bought one that needed completely gutting. Completely. So sadly the TVR got sold and I bought a Ford Focus. Now I have a Renault Trafic van (ok, i am a builder so do need one). Don't get me wrong it is a tidy little runner with plenty of room and even has a bit of poke.

However, I thought to myself today, I have gone from my dream TVR to a van. Simple as that. I even put a post up a while ago offering the missus in part-ex for a TVR (but sadly coudn't strike a deal, just some hilarious replies!).I was wandering if anyone else on here had sold a TVR and 'dropped down' to a much lesser car/van etc. Or am I the only one that seemed to have lost a grip on reality! weeping

P.S. The offer of a part-ex with the missus is still on the cards as we aren't due to get married until the end of October wink

How many owners has the wife had?
does she get serviced often?
whats her big end like?
is she a single or twin exhaust model?

will you be able to get back behind the wheel of a dream car once the house is finished mate? if so, then not all is lost

I had an enfoced trade down when I binned the Chimera. The insurance payment was in my pocket for a whole month before I gave in to the voices and bought another TVR.

If anyone would like to take the missus off my hands though...

Yes but youve got some lovely solid oak flooring so it cant be all bad.

Be happy in the knowledge that your old TVR will be joining me & your dad through France next month...but I suppose that doesnt really help?

Andy, I do feel for ya, that Tamora you had was superbthumbup.

I should'nt be to disappointed with the van because it does'nt matter what speed you are doing in a TVR, the white builders van always passes youirked

Anyway, when your house is completed, maybe you will return to the fold with another Tamorathumbup, something to look forward to.

So you have gone from a TVR to a van, look on the bright side they are both in the same tax group.

On a similar note, I drive a Berlingo ( basically a van with windows ) most days and have the Chimaera for fun.

The difference between the two does make the TVR more fun.

Just an observation but most of us have finite resources and desires that exceed them! Speaking personally I'm pretty convinced the art is knowing how to compromise - so for example you could pick up a TVR S2 or S3 and get 80-90% of the fun you had with the Tamora for 25% of the cost. In fact in my experience of going from S3 to Griff there's one thing the S3 is better at - the S3 gave a much greater feeling of open top motoring and more feeling of sky above you because the screen wasn't as steeply raked - this of course meant that at high (motorway) speed you got more buffeted by wind, however for bumbling along an A road at 50mph with a hamper in the back and the sun beating down the S series was actually better in a way - more like a Morgan or something.

I reckon if you juggle things around a bit - maybe not spending £20k on a kitchen but doing it for £3k you will still have a nice kitchen and you can still have a nice car.

It's certainly my philosophy. Also Because I kept my old pre-cat Griff rather than constantly trading up I ended up owning it so there were no repayments and thus when kids came along it wasn't actually costing me much to keep it!!

Just my thoughts for what it's worth,

Saxon

Nic, the thought of my old car tearing through France with you and my old man doesn't make me feel any better mate, despite the beautiful oak flooring in the house. And you're right Ian, it was a lovely example of a Tamora which makes it even worse when I sold it!

However, there is hope, whenever we move I am allowed another so in a couple of years I'll be back on the road! Big G, get ready to sell yours to me! bounce Don't forget I know where you work! wink

Get that in writing! She's a bright girl so i'm sure will be able to wriggle out of any verbal agreement. Her signature on that document for your signature on the marriage document!

AS above, what about an S or a Wedge to tide you over for a while?

Failing that, give it time, you'll get back into the fold.... It's in the blood.
