urgent help needed - 2007 A6 Lemans 3.0TDi wont start?!

was driving only a while ago, now went to start and has the following symptoms:

- put in key and turn - there are no electrical dash lights lighting up
turn key and she starts (still no dash lights)but dies right away again.
- does not appear to be battery as she does turn and start.
if it was just diesel flow there would still eb dash lights?

its 2007, 35k miles. any help very very much appreciated as i need her today!!!!!!

...also, some more detail

when i try to start her and she dies, there is a funny noise coming from the front passenger side of the engine bay, like an alarm noise only not very loud. it also has a regular interval noise that sounds like someone scraping a record, as if a little electrical motor was moving..??????

all noises dissapear after 10 or 12 seconds???

Was thinking immobiliser but the lack of lights is a bit weird.

me too - is there any way to "reset" the car electrics etc?

other info, for example, the radio etc works but the controls on the steering wheel for the volume etc dont???

Call Audi on the rescue number in the handbook, it could be so many things.
