The recorder in that link - its an Audiovox PVR1000 but I don't think they're made any longer - does anyone know of a similar device? They were remarkably cheap, about £50.

I was out today recording my bike ride, with a cheapo CCD stuck on my helmet wired into an Archos AV400. For some reason I can't fathom the Archos kept turning itself off, even after I told it not to in the power options, and even with the keys locked.

I fancied buying something a bit smaller and lighter to record to, and one of those seems to fit the bill, and won't suffer from vibration problems either.

Here is one of the clips I managed to get before it turned itself off. Annoyingly, I checked it once in my pocket and it was 10 minutes into a recording where I gave a motorist who cut me up badly a telling off (he apologised) - but turning itself off it must have lost it frown

Be careful with the AV400 as it doesn't like vibration. I went through 5 in 6 months under warrenty (with about a 2 week turnaround everytime) when I tried to use one on a motorbike camera system.

Dogcam have some solid state recorders...

This is great for cycling in car etc. It is all in one and uses SD cards as the storage. Solid state all the way and is waterproof as well.

I was looking for a system for recording mountain biking, skiing and driving and found that most of the cheaper stuff doesn't do sound. Something like that Oregon gadget would do the trick if it had sound. Is there anything similar that anyone knows of?

I'm about to get a Flip Ultra for recording the daily commute. I see so many muppets on the road that I think the evidence will come in handy for the insurance one day...

Just released in the UK (has built a cult following in the States for a while now) - available here through Amazon.

Although the Flip Mino has just been released in the States and is notably smaller, in the comparative reviews the Ultra still comes out best for video quality.

The Creative Vado has also just come out here and does the same sort of thing and is a bit cheaper, but I can't find any thorough reviews of it...

The demo videos I looked at on their site all had music over the top of them and no real time sound, as if to cover up for the lack of a mic. If it does sound I might have to look a little harder at it then smile

Dammit.

The little video recorder works fine. A second long glitch or so every few minutes, but otherwise ok and for the money its a bargain.

The videocamera, while not great, also works fine and is cheap enough not to worry about being broken

The standard narrow lens work fine on the videocamera.

The wide angle lens works fine - except it is filtering out all green light! I couldn't believe it, initially I thought the camera was dying, but no if you hold a bottle of fairy liquid in front of it it appears as though the liquid is clear! The leaves on the trail on the recordings I did yesterday are all white!

Can anyone explain that one to me? If I hold the lens and view green things through the optics only, I can see the 'green' colour just fine - but when screwed into the camera (which sees green just fine with the other lens) its clear?

Pics to explain:

My brain struggles with this concept.
