Has anybody out there swapped the fuel injection system with a Weber 500 four barrel carburator kit on a V8S or something else with the RV8? The guy at V8 Developments was very, very helpfull but it would be good to hear from any members who have converted recently and what effect it had on their car. What problems did you encounter and how did you overcome them? I'm not looking for a performance increase (it's fast enough thanks!!) but I don't want to loose anything either, particularly the mid range punch. I would like to tidy up the engine bay though and get rid of all that wiring and pipework. If anyone has done this and sold on the old PI kit did you get much for it? Thanks everyone. Joe

Hi Joe,

why would you want to convert it to a pre injection engine? I'm struggling to see a benefit, is it purely cosmetic? I love the look and sound of webbers but what would you gain? (not a rhetorical question by the way!)

It is mainly cosmetic. I'd like to get rid of all that pipewok and have something under there I know I could fix if it went wrong. I'm not looking for any performance gain but I don't want to loose anything either. Thanks for the reply. Joe

You'll soon have a colour telly with all those petrol coupons! hehe

You will not get the same economy that you do with injection - the carb solution is generally an easy bolt on and go solution for kit car builders who haven't got injection to start with.

If you wanted to spend money I'd upgrade the ECU to an emerald or similar solution, the gains are far far superior.

I know you can fiddle with a carb - but to set it up still needs a proper tune up - the days of twiddling the mixture screw and listening to the engine are over in my view.

I think the injection system was a positive move forward - otherwise all the chim and griff boys would be pulling the injection off and fitting carbs. The ECU is now an old design but still has better fuel control than a mechanical carb.

All In my very humble opinion!

The webber/carter is highly respected and according to a test in a magazine was very close to the efi in terms of performance. It's also pretty good out of the box, a friend used the same carb on his 3.5 and 4.0 without any alterations being required.
