A qualified mechanic/MOT tester etc can earn anything from 20K - 35K depending on the company and your skills.

I guess you don’t get anywhere near 20K until your qualified though ? probably more 10-15K ?

Hey,

I'm a fully qualified BMW Senior technician, been at it for 9 years now inc a 3 year apprenticeship. You'll find that technicians (as we'e rightfully called, although i have extra qualifications that mean i am an engineer) will earn a basic wage then have the rest of their pay made up of bonus usually on individual labour sales/efficiency/productivity (they're all so closely related they're the same really) and some overtime if available. My basic wage is 28K per year, although with bonus I can realistically earn 50k+ per year if i put the hours in and work hard. If i pass the BMW Master technician qualification next year my basic will rise to 32K.
The thing is, you'll need the support of your parents while you do the apprenticeship as the wages are rubbish. But they do improve drastically and when you qualify you'll be glad you stuck with it.
My main advice if you do it is keep plenty of doors open because i know a lot of apprentices who have finished and immediately decide the motor trade is not for them.
If you need any more advice, drop me an email; although i'm not Audi i have been there so to speak......

That really is great advise, i really didnt know it was possible to earn that kind of money in the trade, i also now think that once qualified i will also continue to gain qualifications as you have done, it sounds like they really make a difference.

Thanks

I live next door to a little garage with two mechanics that work on run of the mill cars day in, day out. No MOT.

One of the guys drives a 2004 911 Turbo. I guess if you are self employed or a partner then the wages can e pretty good.
