Did my first event as an official Time Attack photographer at Silverstone last weekend. Mostly stuck to the pitlane this time round ... there are a few sample shots below smile

They are good but the orange car in the fourth one has thrown the white balance out.

Nope...though I wouldn't mind some of the champers they have there.

How much are they paying you to be the official photog?

Doesn't quite work like that smile

Official photographers retain ownership of their work. It is showcased through the TA site, and any image sales are directed back to them.

Mick,

How did you manage to become an official tog with them? What did you have to do? I'd love to do something like that, go to any events really, even as a tag-a-long bag carrier, just to take some snaps.

So guys - if anyone needs a bag carrier (providing I can take a few snaps myself) look no further smile

Scott

Sorry, great shots, BTW

Hi Scott smile

I know a couple of the guys that organise TA vaguely and chatted to one of them at an MLR sprint. He suggested that I speak to one of the other guys on the team and provide samples of my work, so that is what I did.

If you really want to get involved in shooting at track events, club magazines are a good way in. I do a fair amount of photography/reportage for the MLR mag (Wastegate Chatter), and that brings some interesting opportunities for press passes etc sometimes.

Don't know what kind of car you have ... maybe there is a club for that marque that could offer similar opportunities?

So you don't get the money if one of your images is sold?

Yes you do ... didn't put that very clearly.

TA put any interested parties in touch with the relevant photographer for image sales smile

Mick,

Thanks for the reply.
Leads me into "how did you get in with the mag..." but I could be on at yer for hours smile

I don't think my car will get me any work (Vectra - bog standard family estate!) but I should try harder at finding out what's happening round my local area - need to google harder. Certainly don't know of, or have any contacts with, any mags but I have seen car gatherings local. Been to a couple of OPL track days but no track event races yet. Not been doing Motor Sport photography for long so maybe I oughta take it 1 step at a time.

Thanks,
Scott

Club mags are always looking for articles. If you can take a decent shot and write a few words on something relevant to them in your area, just have a go!

I got to meet the guys that run the MLR through the many shows that happen every year. If you go to something like JAE, JTS or Rallyday (just examples) you will see a few club stands. Just go up and chat to the guys manning themwink

(Edited to correct crap English!)
