City & Guilds or IMI?
Discussion
Hi.
I'm looking to do a Technical Certificate as part of an apprenticeship and was just wondering what's more credible; a City & Guilds, or an IMI? Or, are they just the same?
Besides the obvious need for experience, are there any employers here who would preference one over the other?
Thank you for any input you can give!

I'm old,
every employer will of heard of City & Guilds, & then NVQ's, but WTF is an IMI?
If you every thought in later life you needed to immigrate or move for a job, City & Guilds are world recognised.
Not saying IMI are not good, but looking at the big picture City & Guilds I would assume is the way to go..

Hi.
Thanks for your reply!
An IMI is a qualification run and approved by The Institute of the Motor Industry (the same people who run the ATA scheme).
Your point regarding City & Guilds being recognised in other countries around the world is definitely a comforting thought. Being able to get work wherever I am is one of my key aims.
My concern is that the IMI may only stand strong in the UK, unless it's done in collaboration with a brand (for example, BMW, Ford, Honda, etc).
Thanks!
