Wiper Motor Relay?

When I switch the ignition on my wiper starts, the switch has no control over it, it's not the wiper stalk as I have changed that, in fact if I disconnect the column stalks, the wiper still works!
Could this be a wiring problem or a relay (which one?) or a motor problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

Am FAR from being an electrical expert, but I had a similar (but not identical) problem with my build. Turns out that I had the air con wired incorrectly and this was blowing fuses in other areas, so it may be worth checking the other wiring connections as well as the wiper & relay.

Am sure that seasoned builders (Stig, Steve et al) will be able to provide a more useful reply !! Good luck in the meantime.

Usually inside a wiper motor gearbox unit there is a large wheel (gear). On the side of the gear there are normally either contacts or a groove which a micro switch runs in.The contacts or groove have a break in the cirlcular pattern they form, the break is the point where the motor stops and hence the wiper parks (otherwise it would stop anywhere from one side of the screen to the other). It sounds like a faultly component within that area. I dont yet know the Ultima wiper mechanism/box but suspect its something along the lines above, if not the other option is its relay timed and hence a faulty relay.

It is most likely the park switch has failed or fallen out.
Pull fuse 2 and see if it stops. If it does then it is the park switch.

As has been described the switch runs against a sort of cam on the motor driven wheel. The point it drops off the cam is the park position. So, if the wipers are running (via the switch) and are turned off you would expect the wipers to just stop but if they are not in the park position the park switch continues to provide power until it reaches the park position.
