Is this the best year for S series revival?

It appears that quite a few people have done a body off restoration which has been completed this year. I wonder how long on average it takes ? It took me 5 months and mine was a complete teardown, shotblast, 8 chassis areas welded and rebuilt. Cost about £1900 all new bushes and nuts and bolts - including engine parts (£300).

Is this the best year for rebuilds - if barkychoc could only keep up, it may well be - only joking Chris. When and whats your cost estimate (I hope Mrs Barkychoc doesnt read this). I personnaly thought I would get change from a Grand - what a dreamer.

Well you have to bear in mind I've bought quite a few tools aswell.
Welder ebay £125, Welding consumables £100, Hydraulic engine crane ebay £100, other tools at least £300, All new bushes inc trailing arms £250 approx, engine stand £45, parts washer £40 + fluid £20. Vice £25. Millions of little bits and pieces God only know how much.

I've spent a lot for sure, I don't think I even want to add it up.
I've started on the engine today, a new cam and followers is added to the list now.
New clutch & flywheel required.
Steering rack needs a rebuild
Radiator needs a recore

sean i think you could be right about the rebuilds,i think its partly down to this site there is so much info on here that people are inclined to have a go at it and it they come unstuck they know someone on here will know the answer,i was lucky with the chassis i bought it was silly cheap and with the brakes,clutch,joints,cylinders etc i suppose mine only came to about 1k and it took me about 3 months

I think Ken is absolutely right, the forum has been a godsend to me. Not just with info I need but friendly encouragement as well.
As far as costs go....... we pensioners have to be careful but it hasn't been that expensive at all really. At the moment I've got much more fun thing to do than add it up.....and I want to be able to sleep at night anyway!

Oh dear, seems I'm rather slow. It took me over 18 months. In my defence though I did have a 10 month old son when I started. He's now 5 and loves the 'noisy car'.

I stripped it to the bare chassis and pretty much changed everything. New poly bushes, radiator, nuts/bolts, shocks, springs, gearbox and diff mounts, brakes, refurbished seats etc.

Don't want to think about cost but I shouldn't think I got much change out of £3500.

Still the sun is shining today..!!
