F1 paddle shifters
Discussion
I test drove a BMW 355i with paddle shifters. It was neat, but not something I would replace a stick shifter with.
The majority of Porsche fanatics say to stick with the manual transmission as opposed to the optional "Tiptronic" gearbox.
Then there is the real deal, the F1 auto-clutch transmissions found in the '05 Ferrari F430 Spider F1, or the '09 Maserati GranTurismo S. There are also ones similar to F1 simulation, like the Jag DB9 or the Lambo eGear.
Has anyone had experience with these? How do you like them? How would an F1 auto-clutch work in an Ultima? Not available yet? Too pricey? Too many technical hurdles?
I also see a lot of folks preaching stick=road, paddle=track. Is that generally the case?

I wonder if this will change with Porsches soon-to-be launched, PDK shifters expected on the facelift GT3?And would this technology will make it's way to an Ultima?

I think the only DSG problem is that the FWD boxes are only compatible with transverse engine applications.
The 4WD boxes are also not suitable.
I think we'll have to wait for Porsche to upgrade the Tip box on the Boxster / Cayman before we can make us of it.
not unless you can add a 1:1 ratio diff to it !The 4WD boxes are also not suitable.

The '09 Audi R8 will have the DSG transmission powered by their current V8. I think it's the same one Porsche will be using. The specs are here:

And if that's not enough, Audi is currently testing a V10, and a V10 TDI engine. Those options will probably be appearing soon.
So, dropping the entire Audi R8 drive-train into the back of an Ultima would be an interesting project, to say the least.
