One for the Aviation Enthusiasts - Victor & Lightning
Discussion
I was at a very wet and windy Bruntingthorpe yesterday for one of their Cold War Jets Open days....
Normally would have taken loads of photo's but due to the monsoon like weather i only took a few. Highlight of the day was the Lightning run but the Victor was very impressive too. Once that got going though you couldnt see it for spray!
Not only was I soaked but the camera was too!! Thank goodness for the Canon 1 series weather proofing!! I know of other people there who's camera's died through injestion of water!!
Here's just a couple of photo's....

Wow awesome stuff, didnt realise they did runs of the jets!! Mint, might have to take a trip over very soon!
The jet runs only happen on open days which generally happen only once or twice a year... Rumour is next one may be September but thats just speculation. You can see all the jets though every weekend as they are kept outside. Currently Vulcan XH558 is there as well and has an open hanger every Sunday so you can view her. Well worth a visit

That looks like a fantastic day! Love your pics, especially the first one - it's so graphic. Hope you don't mind but I've beefed the levels a bit, would make a great pc background!
No thats cool, you go for it.... My monitor is out of calibration so i cant tell at the moment how pics look on other peoples screens. No doubt they could be improved...!!rhubarb said:
Last shot is great, love the lightning, assume its just up and down the runway, its not flying yet is it? That wil be a day to remmeber when they get the lighning and vulcans back in the sky.
If only that were possible..... I'm in touch with one of the guys that runs the lightning and there are many reasons why a Lightning will never fly again. Even if one was put back to flying order the CAA wouldnt allow it to fly. This happened a number of years back when a twin seat lightning was brought back to flying condition. That particular one now lives in South Africa and fly's alongside several other Lightnings. Their aviation rules are different to ours. You can even pay to have a flight yourself.
Their operation though wont last for that much longer due to life expired components. Once those have run out the aircraft will never fly again.
Same with the Vulcan, its limited to 1000 cycles per engine (1 cycle is fron idle to full power and back to idle again after flight or run). She has 8 engines available so this will give her a fair number of flights yet but once they are used up that will be it.
However this is assuming that a sponsor comes forward with funding to allow the Vulcan to keep flying. Without that she only has enough funds to do one or two airshows this year..

Apologies for the bad camera work, it was extremely wet and windy and it was only taken on a phone!
