Hi all, need some advice on suspension on my 2000 Tuscan. At recent service my local main dealer does the sharp intake of breath bit and tells me that the 'suspension cups' need replacing very soon, at £750 plus VAT. yikes I say I'll leave it for now, but yesterday I noticed the ride changed dramatically and suddenly, so I suspect this is the issue. Replacing the cups looks fairly simple, are there any recommendations for suppliers? Are there any pitfalls I should know about replacing them myself? Or inexpensive TVR specialists in Yorkshire?

Sorry, but what do you mean by suspension cups?

£750 sounds like a lot of wonga.

Looks like a 60mm diameter cog, made from aluminium (I think), with about 6 teeth. It's what one end of the spring sits on (or in).

ah right the adjustable spring platform .. they don't normally give you trouble, but i guess could split if heavily corroded. 750 pounds sound a lot of money, I think they're about 30 pounds a corner from demon tweeks and maybe 3 hours labour to fit?

That's what I thought you meant, I think they might have been quoting for a complete set of new shocks at that price!

As Joolz says not a difficult job, but you will need spring compressors if you're going to do it yourself, failing that, take the shocks off complete, and take them to your friendly local garage and ask them to swap them over. yes

Then reset the spring seats to correct ride height. Remember to measure ride height before you take the shocks off. biggrin

Good luck

Thanks chaps. Don't have any spring compressors, but do have friendly garage nearby. Will go there.

Ken,

Are they 2 piece spring seats?

I ask as I've just aquired some that are no good to me as I have Nitrons on my car.

Email me through my profile if you want to make me an offer for them.

I can post up a pic if it helps identify them.
