Hi.

I come from Motocross stock, but after breaking my collarbone a few years ago (not good seeing as Im self employed, Im looking for something else to fill my summer this year.
Me and a few mates want one each, but I'm after some advice on what to get.
Bearing in mind its only gonna be for a few months, I dont wann spend too much, say £1500 -£2000.
Can i get something decent and fast for this, and whats my best option?

Cheers

also bear in mind you just cant use a jetski on a lake or on the sea without having passed a course, about £150 each and you also need insurance before you can go out on the water, around £300, then some kit life jacket, wet suit, boots etc

for that sort of price, just try and get the lowest amount of hours on the clock and stick with on the decent brands, it depends if you want a 1,2 or 3 seater

thats not true certain private lakes require RYA certificate many (most) do not.

using at sea again ive used many ramps and never needed rya ok it might be a advantage to have a clue what to do in a emergancy etc but you would be mad going out to sea alone so there should always be someone to help you out

tru that you dont have to have all that, but obviously take someone with you that has some experience.

I'd go for a PWC rather than a traditional jetski due to the ability to take 2 people. Just buy the most standard spec craft with the best condition.Service history is better than low hours, ensure its looked after

I've got a Kawasaki Ultra 150 sitting in my garage which needs some parts and putting back together. Parts are going to cost about £300-400 from the states. I've lost interest in it so if you give me £2000 for it you can have it. It's worth around £3400 as it only has 60hrs on it and is the 2001 model. I have a work shop manual that tells you how to rebuild it. It's a quick ski and will hit 70MPH and has some modifications for better water holding. It really isn't for the faint hearted.

What you NEED depends on where you wish to launch from, there are very few sites that require RYA, and ALL Lakes will require minimum 3rd party insurance.

However, for a few hundrd quid I would reccommend getting RYA trained, and also insured, about £300 on a craft of low vlaue.

I am a safety ranger for Solent Skiers In Lee On Solent, and the number of people trying to ski on E bay £1500 skis with no idea near the beach is a menace in the summer time.

This leaves you with about £1500 budget, you may find a bargain, but I would try to spend a few quid more if you can find it about 2.5k will get you a good ski, have a look on www.pwcforums.co.uk to find people near you with experience, also try www.nitrojet.co.uk, as they do hire, you can try a few craft before you make your mind up, as a motorcrosser try the new X2 its the nearest thing to a bike on water I have ridden. (I have been doing it 16 years) You may get a good finance deal on 1 of them.

good luck.
