We're due to head off on holiday tomorrow. TransporTed is packed, camera gear is packed (bags aren't!) and I've finally got round to sorting out camera insurance, as it's not viable to put on the holiday insurance, nor is it covered by travel insurance due to the value.

We want worldwide cover, for amateur photographers, and ideally in-vehicle cover.

I was just about to agree to one company's quote, when I spotted this in the T&Cs

Storage compartments in vehicles must not be accessible from the driver’s area; or opened by electrical or mechanical devices within the passenger section; or accessible by removal of a panel, shelf or partition.

Well that puts out ALL 3 of our vehicles. irked

So, any recommendations please... T-minus 24hrs and counting...

I used these guys a few years back - were fine with me leaving gear in the boot of the Tuscan, although I seem to remember there was one clause in the T&Cs that wasn't ideal, but they were the least restrictive I found.

I'm assuming your home contents cover can't be extended to cover it?

Take the Griff. Even TVR owners have enough trouble getting the boot open let alone opportunistic tealeaves! hehe

We want worldwide cover AND in-vehicle cover.

Just spoken to http://www.imaginginsurance.co.uk/ who were VERY helpful, have a sensible in-vehicle policy (must be out of sight, locked and not left in there overnight) and 60 days out of EU cover.

Waiting for the T&C documents to come over, but we may have a winner. smile

Avoid E&L - very bad rep. when it comes to claims.

Otherwise I'm with Glover & Howe this year - very pleased with the customer service over the phone - and was with Photoguard last year (cheaper but more exclusions and clauses...worried me when I finally started thinking things through...).

I don't think any of them cover convertible cars, but DO cover hard-top cars as long as the kit is in a locked compartment. Can't remember anything about accessibility of said compartment, and if it's not specified, then it's not excludable...

My insurance is my monopod...I keep my gear with me at all times, and if someone is ever stupid enough to try and take it they'll get the monopod in the teeth.

Martin.

I always keep mine with me too, but it is wise to have a policy that covers it whilst in the boot.
