It's something I've contemplating for a while. The whole patent law aspect is something I'd love to move in to.

I've done a bit of research on the backgrounds of some patent lawyers and they seem to come from different backgrounds, one even studied Animal Sciences. I'd love to get into Architecture and Design products. My question is how?

Does anyone work as a patent lawyer or know someone who does and how they got into it?

Most big companies have whole departments dedicated to this type of role. Some people move into it from design and engineering, some people move into it from corporate law.

I spent a year working for a company specializing in IP.

Had a reasonable number of conversations with the patent lawyers there. Its well paid to compensate for how boring the job is.

need a degree- if its LLb at a reconised Uni then you will need membership to the law soceity. after this you will need to sit the LPC (legal Practice Course) which range from £8000-£11000. If you get a degree thats either a BA, or Bsc you will need to do the GDL (General Diploma in Law) first, cost around £5000

you will then need to complete a 2 year training contract
