Sadly on Saturday morning I was involved in a RTA that I believe will write off the Chim. Nobody was hurt and I wasn't at fault. Luckily an off-duty PC witnessed the whole accident so he will be very reliable.
Mostly severe front/side damage, rad knackered, windscreen cracked (so possible engine/chassis damage). I'm no expert but I suspect that the car will be written off although it will be confirmed either way on next week.

In the event the car is declared unrepairable, does anybody have any experience with Elephant's claims dept and their 'expert' car vaulations? I'm already dreading the offers they are likely to throw at me (I bought the car 3 months ago for 9k from Henley Heritage) which i'm led to believe are way less than present market values.

I'm willing to fight my corner as the car was in exceptional condition albeit with slightly higher than normal mileage (80k, 1996 4L HC)

Any help is much appreciated.

thanks Andy

Sorry to hear that Andy. For a 12 year old car, 80k is not huge (my 5 year old MG has 115k smile) so I don't think I'd worry about that.

I hope you get on OK.

Yep will be a write off. My car was valued at £18.5k and had £10k of front bodywork and rad damage. No chassis or engine, and was written off. The fact that you have just bought the car 3 months ago should help with the value. When dealing with the claim make sure you are in control! Give Europa Consultants a call. They will deal with a great hire car and all non fault accident compensation stuff. I am currently going through them for my claim. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! With the valuation, do some research on autotrader and pistonheads classifieds and actively state your case for the value.

Good luck, Jon.

Average 10k miles a year, yours is well under so 80k will not affect the valuation.......

The estimate has come through...

14k's worth of repairs eek

Which in my book = complete write-off as the car is 'only' worth 9k!

Seconded - give them a call and ask for Steve Greensmith (aka anniesdad on PH) absolutely top service and takes away all the hastle of dealing with the insurance claim muppets. Also will get you a like for like hire car for the duration of the claim!!
Steves helped me out on 2 claims for the Chim - one of which I owe him many beers for as without his help I'd never have won my case!

Always sad to hear of another one biting the dust, but at least you were able to walk away from the accident. Good luck with the insurance claim, and a speedy return back to Tiv owenership thumbup

Thanks for the heads-up on claims consultants. I'll give Steve a ring today.

Ph1l, no injuries to me or 3rd parties.

Hopefully I should be able to fight for a good insurance settlement and get back on the roads.
