artificial grass

I have a balcony and after 10 years I thought it might be nice to have a proper flooring on it. I was thinking astro tuf but spotted this company.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to introduce a bit of colour and a garden ambience into my balcony. What do you think.

i think that, unless you're after a recipe to best prepare this artificial delicacy, P&P may be better to post this in.

I think it depends on your taste but to me on a balcony it would remind me of that stuff that greengrocers put on their shelves. If you want a bit of green, why not put chamomile and thyme in different sized shallow pots and dot them around? They don't take any looking after and smell nice if you stick your hands in while you're having your early-evening G&T.

Oh well it was only an idea. My balcony is about half this size and just thought it might make it a bit nicer than just tarmac

Nope PC does not like my camera anymore. Perhaps pouring water over it was a bad idea, long story.

Maybe the word im looking for is Asphalt. I dont know but its the same sort of thing you find on some pavements, where the product is heated and poured onto the surface and spread around, usually with sand thrown on top.

Astraturf does look quite nice on a balcony,only needs a run over with a Dyson or such now and then.

Personally I'd go for decking like the one next to the grass. Get nice and smooth and you can stoat about on it in your bare feet. Also means your beer bottles or glasses are less likely to topple over when you're out lounging after work.

Look up one of the sports 'astroturf' suppliers, like Nottsport or the like. The sort you' d want is used for kids play surfaces.

The newer stuff is longer and slightly finer, with a defined turf structure. This is then part filled with a specific grade sand so you're left with a 15-20mm natural sward. A slightly different, firmer type is used by quite a few cricket clubs for artificial wickets.

It's actually quite nice, and as long as drainage is sorted on your balcony there's no reason why not. Comes in different colours as well to suit kid's playgrounds. For the size area you've got it wouldn't be too pricey (although not entirely the cheapest option).

Whats wrong with doing it properly and just laying turf. You get the right smell when it rains and the right feel under the toes when you walk on it. It may need cutting occasionally but would be worth it IMO. Don't think there would be much in it cost wise either.
