door lock mechanism

Hi All,

Proud new owner of a lovely S3!! Been making the most of the recent weather!

Only problem encountered so far is that the passenger side door doesn't lock. The key won't turn in the lock and I can't depress the button (even if I try holding the handle up with the door open).

Anyone had a similar problem? There is no mention of a fix for this in Steve Heath's book, though I gather accessing the mechanism is a fiddly job.

Any advice would be welcome.

Sounds as though it has just siezed up maybe through lack of use, give it a squirt of penetrating fluid for a few days and see if it loosens up. If not the handle isn't to difficult to remove once the door panel is of and will probably just need a good clean and grease.

the cable to the interior door handle could be too short thus preventing the mechanism to drop back

Easy test,just remove the door trim and un hook the cable from the door handle

I am not sure what the problem is with the lock but if it helps there is an article on TVR S Series website about removing the door trim, it is fairly straight forward and the door lock mechanism is (on mine anyway) fairly accessible. The only fidly bit I found was getting the interior door release cable off/on. Ihe cable is bent through 180 degrees at the end and is just looped through from back to front on the door lock mechanism.

thanks all, I will take the door trim off and have a look at the mechanism one evening this week. Hopefully it's just a bit stuck.
