Can anyone help me please to recommend a good & reliable company in the south who could rebuild my gearbox?
It is a LT77 box from a 1992 4 litre Griff. The second gear syncro has gone so I will need a complete rebuild.
Thanks

Lots of complicated specialist tools there - by my standards at least.

I believe this is the same box as fitted in the Wedges & if it is be aware that the this type of gearbox was used on everything from the Sherpa to Jaguar in the BL range & the internal bearings etc can vary in size.

When I had my 400SE on the road I was using to go to Le Mans one year & it jammed in 4th gear whilst overtaking a lorry. When I got back to the UK I removed the box & was going to swop it for a reconditioned SD1 box but luckily somebody refered me to a gearbox specialist in the Brighton area. Turns out my box had the stronger Jag bearings which are approx 1 1/2 times bigger than the SD1 unit.

When I was looking at a gearbox fix, Steve Heath recommended these people IIRC

Ian, John Reid did my GKN diff over winter, he is up in Blackpool.

Think it was about £380

Thanks Ant. thumbup
I'm only checking up really - I've had the diff done - refurb, bearings and seals for £295 which seems pretty good then.

Think mine was about £300.. price can be more - depends on what they find is wrong as well as the usual bearing etc on the rebuild.

Is that the gearbox? I have a price of £485 to refurb my 'spare' LT77.

Does he work out of the barn or is he independent?
