Hi everyone, haven't been on here much lately wavey

Took some pics of my mates Elise yesterday and apart from a brief attempt at Castle Combe it was my first real go at panning with cars.

I wanted to get a shot that had the numberplate in focus and the rest of the car and background blurred. Not easy is it! Quite tricky to do it smoothly. Initially I was stopping/slowing my pan action as I hit the button, or wobbled as I hit it. Eventually, I got this, which I quite like.

My question is, does this have too much blur? (I have other shots with less, but I particularly like this one). Amazing how the back wheel looks I thought, I can verify that the wheel is round, but you wouldnt think so from the shot!

Looks fine to me, I think the amount of motion blur is about right to give a feeling of speed - a little more wouldn't do any harm and less probably would make the car look a little too static.

Too much for me... but still a great shot. Just up to screen in focus would be cool!

Not sure why you chose numberplate (rather than badge/ a wheel/ driver) to be the focus subject, although IMO the shot you've posted works well as a whole.

You might want to go for a little less subject blur when you're shooting other compositions (more car/ different angles).

Thanks for the opinions.

I've got others where more of the car is clearer, and some where the driver is clearer. Maybe I'll post them in a bit for comparison.
