I'm about to buy my first digital videocam. Will use it for general family/travel/porn etc hehe but primarily would like to do in car stuff.

Will use it in my road car, both on the road (want to show my brother how much Perth has changed since he left etc) and on track days. Also want to mount it in the race car.

Do I just get some sort of mounts for the cam, or should I put the cam in a box and plug in a bullet cam? (I assume that is how to do it, using the camera to record and the bullet cam is just acting as a "lens"??)

Do all/most cams have input for bullet cam or do I need something special? Is a HDD cam OK for use in a car?

TIA

I've used a headrest camera mount in the past like this (blatant plug - which i'd like to get rid of if anyone is interested)

It's pretty good, gives a nice view outside the screen and can also pick up the speedo depending on it's location.

The mount I used was always dead steady as it moved with the car. A friend used a sucker mount on the inside of the windscreen, but i think he said he needed a polarizing filter as he got reflections from the glass.

Dont know about bullet cams i'm afraid.

HDD should be fine, as long as your suspension isnt too hard.

I've used 2 hard drive recorders to record in car footage of an exige at Silverstone, and they coped fine.

Only use bullet cams if you cant put your camera where you need it to be- the quality from a bullet cam wont be as good as your camera. Also, does does your camera have a video input connector of any sort? A lot of handycaams these days wont record from an external source.

If your looking for mounts or bullet cams, its worth having a look at :

www.fastfilms.co.uk - they have loads of mounts, internal and external, for all occasions

hope that helps
