it seems to me that a lot of people dont like seadoo saying they blow up etc etc is this just from past problems that they have now overcome or do they actually have chocolate engines ?

Seadoo RXP... the engine has blown up three times, and now seadoo won't warranty it. So its sat at the dealer unloved...
Had a 2002 XP and that was a nightmare as well.
They are just a pain.

And just to put the opposite view, I ran a 98 XP for 4 years and it never missed a beat (except requiring several engine mount replacements). Admittedly the older ones aren't the highly strung, tuned to the edge machines that they seem to produce now though.

We had one, admittedly a while back now, (SPX) for a couple of years and it put up with all our abuse and never missed a beat. Lightweight and fast.

Simple, they used to be very very good up until 2000. Then bean counters decided to take over and make it a LOT more profitable.

Thats why I bought HONDA Aquatrax R-12. Friend in states has rental business. In his words '... newer doo's (>2001) and you are looking at rebuild/turbo issues couple of time a season. Out of 28 Hondas (first ones with more then 800hours on them, last with 650h, 0 rebuilds and 0 problems). Apparently Yamaha going the same way. Buy jet where manufacturer is loosing money on them simple really ...

had 2 in the past, a 1998 GTI and a later GTX.

both superb, never missed a beat when used in salt and fresh. That said i did take a lot of time cleaning and drying after use, even after fresh water use.

Only downfall for me was trailer's, and more to the point the wheel bearings!

Had a GSX Rfi 2001 and it ran like a sewing machine for 5 yrs, no problems AT ALL. On the strength of that I chopped her in for a Wake Edition 2006 and the engine blew up before i'd had it for an HOUR!!!! Literally, in the water, away we go, taking her steady and BOOM.

They replaced it obviously and the replacement has been excellent (Touch wood) so I guess its the luck of the draw.

I have a Seadoo GTX 4 TEC Supercharged ski, had it from new in 2003 and it has been the best ski I have ever owned (4 in total)
Never given me a problem and as long as they are serviced as required they never should do.
Fantastic all round ski,

Tony.

I have had 6 doos in 16 years, and 3 yamahas and a kawasaki, all have probs, supercharger washers can cause problems, but change em and you have 1 hell of a ski.

I currently have an 05 rxp stage 1 tuned, and its awesome.

big bang for the buck.

I have only ever had SEA-DOO's, the 2 strokes are not a problem if properly looked after, change the ceramic washers to metal on the supercharged ski's and shouldn't have too many problems.

I race an RXP with 300+hp in the british championship, its all about how you build and look after them

had my first blast this afternoon on my nephews ski, flippin fast compared to my old Seadoo GTX, chalk and cheese, the initial pull is stunning and 50 to 70 flashes up in a couple of seconds, wasnt really prepared for that either

We had a drag race side by side, and the RXT even with 2 up easily paste'd the old one, throws up a lot of spray to, a few pics i snapped...

felt a lot safer going fast around the corners on the GTX, for some reason it felt more stable, less twitchy. and less likely to chuck you off than the RXT

I have the 4 tec supercharged and a new RXT 255 supercharged and apart from changing the ceramic washers for titanium ones on the older ski neither have missed a beat, both are fantastic skis with the RXT being on another planet regs performance tho.
As mentioned above, all manufacturers are good in their own way but for me there is no other choice than Seadoo.
HTH.
