Morning,

I seem to have been taken with the idea of buying a private plate for my Tuscan.

I think I want to hide the age of the car a little. Most of our cars dont LOOK like the 10-15 year olds that they are. (that sounds wrong..)

There are quite a fex xxx TVR type plates available for about a grand upwards.

Am I being a wally?

Its down to individual choice and taste. I think a decent plate is a nice finishing touch to a car and is good for being recognised on the road (if you want to be!!!). I'm not a fan of plates that read (in a round about way) things like BIG BOY, HOT, COOL etc.. but plates relating to the car and initials are fine, unless your name is Harry Oliver Thompson smile

I'm ambivalent on the subject but I would not want a car sporting PE55ARY tailgating me.

Personally recommend having a look at the DVLA direct site as plenty of decent plates on there for £250 all in and that's including the assignment fees. Hundreds of S6 *** plates on at that price, pick you initials if they are still there or just something fairly generic that looks nice, just a quick glance and found S6 JNX (Jinx) and depending on your sense of humour regarding the S6 engine I think would be a cracking ironic plate on a Tuscan. I quite like private plates but not sure I would ever tie up over a grand in one, but for about £250 its a no brainer.

I got mine directly from the DVLA at reasonable prices.

I think they are releasing the low number F plates soon, so it may be worthwhile hanging on.

My mate has just bought B11 MSX to put on his 200sx (BUM SX) and his pal has bought G4 YSX.....

Highly amusing, but I doubt I'd have the bottle to drive round in them!

Anything with TVR on is at least £700 from the DVLA. There are also a few prefix plates X** TVR etc.. available for around that money. You will be lucky to get any non age related TVR plate for under 2 grand.

The one thing not to do is buy from one of the "dealers". They are rip off merchants who dont own the plates and often dont even have permission to offer them. Newreg currently has my plate on offer on its site for £5,395, despite never having contacted me or the previous owner and despite that being a ludicrous price. Bunch of chancers. I may email them and beg them to get it for me and see what happens.wink

Waste of money in my book, thats 700 quid which could go to fitting a better ECU or a set of Nitrons

You can't see the plate from behind the wheel

Still whatever floats your boat

The S6 plates on a Tuscan for £250 are indeed a no brainer. I recently bought my login name S6 DVL, a bargain and a bit of fun! thumbup

thanks chaps,

No hope of me affording this until next month, dont want to just "slap it on the credit card" as I will forget to pay it off!

Thanks for the offers from those selling plates, If I decide to go ahead I'll be in touch.

But if you've already got the better ECU & the Nitrons what's the problem?

nothing wrong with private plates if you want them, the only drawback is you are easily spotted (well you are in a tvr anyway) an example is today i was on the m3 and passed a silver van reg D14AYS, recognised it from here straight away. tivs look much better with private plates IMHO

Cool. Then they have to put in print at the bottom of plate what it is supposed to say, that's so sad. Though, the 'right' plate is ok in my book.

David, the bottom line is if you want a Private Plate, then you are more than entitled to get one.

I will certainly be putting a private plate on my other car in future as well, why the hell not.
