What is Northamptonshire like?
Discussion
Question;
I'm moving to the UK and was going to settle in Northamptonshire (seemed good value for money, central etc) - however - someone who used to live in the UK claimed it was a bit of a s
thole...
Is their any merit in that statement or is it a case of everywhere has good and bad areas?
Any pointers for 'not so bad' areas if the statement is true?
Cheers

what all of Northamptonshire?
Same as anywhere the big towns have good and bad areas but the villages are generally nice or if you have the money very nice
Good communication roads into and out of the county, good driving roads too (but keep that to ourselves), plenty of real ale pubs (if you must drink wine English wines win international awards)
Plenty of good countryside in Northants and surrounding counties
There's a county cricket team and popular and sucessful local rugby team (football - well, you don't do you!?!)
Northamptonshire is a big county so you'll need to narrow your search down
Good luck to you and don't listen to that other idiot
I agree. Northamptonshire's rural (ok not quite as rural as NZ)
It has good links, some people do tend to 'drive through' it. But it's the people who stop who realise what a diamond the place really is.
Find a good town or village and the people are as friendly they are in Picton or Kiakoura.
Good luck.

South Northants is the 18th best place to live in the UK http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/best&worst...
As mentioned by Nigel, nice countryside all over, with some lovely villages.
The main towns are not that good (even though I live in one), but it depends on what you are looking for.
We also have Silverstone, Rockingham, nearby Santa Pod. We are in motorsport valley, so any motoring yearnings should be satisfied.

Northampton town is a dump - full of mouth breathers and pregnant teenagers.
However, the surrounding areas are quite beautiful rolling countryside with great pubs, superb restuarants and some absolutely fantastic B roads that are usually quiet.
As previous posters have said - depends where you are talking about but the villages are lovely places to live.

But lots of ph'ers live there, so phrase things a little better.(I haven't seen a teenage mum yet and what is a mouth breather?)

Northampton town centre is a dump which seems to be populated almost exclusively by tracksuited retards who take it in turns to smoke outside Primark or queue for Greggs.
Northampton town centre is awash with teenage mothers. The reason you haven't seen any pregnant ones is becuase they are inside Primark. The ones with pushchairs are outside smoking. Or queueing for Greggs - seriously there are hundreds of them.
Mouth breathers - fairly self explanatory I would have though
Northampton town centre has a combined IQ of 56.
Outside of the town centre Northampton is perfectly acceptable - some parts, as i have said are beautiful.
Northampton town centre though is a dump - just to clarify

Now changed to the town centre shops, that's better.p.s. you can only complain about the town if you live in NN1

As someone who lives in south nothants, I quite like it here! Nice and quite out in the sticks, no fuss, no police (in a good way
), good twisty roads if you know where to look, more motor sports places than you can shake a stick at, although some are just across the border in and around Banbury. Lots of village pubs serving local/proper ales too. House prices aren't cheap, but there are more expensive places too, a lot depends where in the county you look at.
If not Northamptonshire, then the neighbouring county of Oxfordshire is also very nice, especially the south of the county, which has some lovely little villages and acres of nothing but fields with nice roads wrapped around them. It's also home to the Hook Norton brewery!
