Radar Detectors

Don't bother with radar detectors, as most speed cameras are now the Truvelo type which work off an inductive loop buried in the road. Far better to use the GPS based such as Raod angel or Morpheous

Absolutely incorrect old boy... the majority are radar operated Gatso.... very easy to get confused by this.
Forward firing Truvelo cameras, operate on a piezo electric triggered loop in the road surface.
Forward firing Gatsos (very few and far between) can operate on either radar or an inductive loop in the road surface
However the majority of portable devices are now Laser devices... so a GPS without a laser detection module is US.
Best buy = Origin B2 with the supplied as standard laser detection module. Also has options to add a laser diffuser and a radar detection module direct to the Origin Blue.

What kind of prices are people getting the Road Angel for? £390 ish? (apart from eBay where they seem to be around £330 )
Been offered one via a dealer for £300, but I want to make sure they can't be bought cheaper.
Thanks

Tivster - do you use the Origin B2 with it's 'standard laser detection module'? Just interested ... I guess the BiB like to protect themselves from accidentally going over the posted limit too

The black ball is a LASER detector, Road Angels don’t detect RADAR. The cheaper ones at £300.00 don’t have this...
it's just being done at a staff rate.
Sounds like it is a good deal.

Yep - detection is to err... well... just to ensure Ahem...that I don't get any nasty surprises. Cos of my car, there are a few around who would like to catch me speeding, which of course I don't and can't condone...
The B2 is hardwired into my Forester S/tb WRX Jap Import - did it myself - easy - and I'm buying an additional vehicle kit to install in the T350T when that arrives. This kit costs another £99 from Origin and contains everything bar the B2 brain module.
I accept that the B2 is not as easily moved from one vehicle to another, but this kit gets around that. The advice I've been given is that the B2 is the best GPS based device around and I'll vouch for its ability. Yet to test the laser detector, but in 3 yrs of owning a Bel 980, it never warned me of a single laser, bar some glitch on the M27 (Eastbound) just under the hill fort at Portsmouth....always activated there.
I'll speak to one of my Roads Policing Colleagues to see whether they would be willing to assist in some research with a handheld laser...
