My 24-70L needs a service as it doesnt work, nor was it ever calibrated properly as the focus was always ever so slightly out when shooting on a tripod in macro mode.

Is it faster/cheaper to send back directly to canon, or do any dealers have a relationship with canon (who I assume does the servicing) which is faster?

Jessops said I could pop it in, the likely charge to fix the lens would be £140-£170, and would take 4 weeks. Good deal, or...? edit: the actual problem with the lens is that it simply wont auto-focus

Many thanks for any advice.
Incidentally, I also need a lens cap for that lens - any idea of price? I think I read once the lens hood was £300 or something silly in that reigon, so Im hoping I'll be able to buy a cap one at a tenth of that price although to be honest I havent yet looked.

Cheers. Anyone else used em?
And is there any reason to use them (if you arent local to them, which Im not) rather than sending the lens back to canon?

I can recommend: http://www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk/

Or you could send it to Canon Elstree. Why not get a quote from each?
