To be honest I've stopped plugging in my 350d to my pc (xp though) and use a card reader, the transfer speed is at least twice as fast.

Other thing to check is that you've got the camera set to pc connection

Can you access USB flash drives? There is a known bug with Vista if you've upgraded from XP but that shouldn't apply if it's been built from a Vista disk.

I don't plug my camera into the computer either, I just use a usb card reader (£12 from amazon).
Its much faster to download, will clear a 2GB card in a couple mins.

Cheers.

Vista is pants.

But BTW

I plug my cameara (not Canon) into the PC... grabs a 4gb card in about 90 seconds - but I think that's more the camera/card than the PC. I have noticed that Vista is MUCH slower than XP.

Or the £1 card reader from your local pound shop if you're feeling cheap!

I believe Nikon cameras appear as a drive when connected ?
Always sounded like a good idea smile wish Canon would implement the same system.

Cheers.

thanks all... I have been using the built-in card reader, but if you "safely remove hardware" on it, it disables the reader until you restart.. which is a pain. I'm loathed to pull the card out without doing it though, as i've known data to disappear off both card & pc when doing this!

I miggt just buy a plug-in reader...

You got the 350d set to communication -> print/ptp or PC connection, try the other.
