The GTO manual says,
Programming Transmitters Without Tech 2
1.
Turn the ignition to ON, then wait 10 minutes for the next step in the programming sequence.
2.
After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp once. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position within 5 minutes after the horn has sounded, then to the ON position within 5 seconds after switching it OFF.
3.
Leave the key to the ON position for 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp twice. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position within 5 minutes after the horn has sounded, then to the ON position within 5 seconds after switching it

4.
Leave the key to the ON position for 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the car horn will chirp 3 times.
5.
Verify that the security indicator in the instrument cluster has stopped flashing and attempt to start the vehicle.
6.
Turn the ignition to OFF and remove the key from the ignition switch.
7.
Move approximately 3 meters (10 ft) away from the vehicle and test the transmitter functions to validate that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.

anyone interested in a group buy of spare fobs? I'm going to order a couple up for myself as I've noticed I'm having to be closer and closer to the car to open it so the battery must be on its way out. If there's anyone else interested I'll see what kind of deal I can get, failing that I'll just get a couple off Ebay.
Yes it worked on mine and believe it works on any small boot monaro. Big boot monaro's I think are different and it doesn't work.
I also changed the battery in the old key but don't recall having to reprogram it it just worked as normal once the battery was changed

Didn't work for me!
Purchased a NOS Holden key from East Coast Holden parts over in the US, tried the 10-10-10 and nothing happened.
Ordered a couple of cheap (tbh they aren't too bad) Chineseum fobs off EBay, swapped the internals from my original keys along with new batteries and both work fine.

There is also this, although I have not heard of anyone using it on the UK cars but I believe that some US Pontiac GTO owners have had success.

Yes you have to enable the horn via the dash menu, quite easy to do but if like me you don't want the horn sounding every time you lock/unlock the car disable it after trying the 10-10-10.Ade

Tried several times without success and now have a brand new Holden logo key fob sitting in a drawer, I just used the two original internals (with new batteries fitted) with two after market shells.

But she will need the car because she pulls the code from the ECU and then programs the new keys to that code. Some people have a security code card that has the information on it. Makes it easier. I didn't, but like I said, she pulls the code from the ECU and also gives you the details on the receipt - easier for future.
Some people have also managed to get the code direct from Holden support, some have tried and failed. You might have a better chance with this because yours is a Holden rather than a Vauxhall as it were! If you could get the code, then any old key programmer should be able to help you. When I enquired, most couldn't be arsed to try without it. This lady had the 'I like a challenge attitude' and said she wouldn't be beaten! Charged only £72.

I too tried the 10 mins wait, chirp method, no success ( 04 cv8 ) some years ago.
