Why do flies fly in 'squares'

Brownian motion
Ooh, I love Brownian motion, me.Makes tea-making so much easier.
Wife: You not going to stir that Rod?
Me: No need love - Brownian motion will take care of it!
Some of my other favourite motions include:
- the motion of the ocean; and
- the loco-motion.
...
Actually, NOT the locomotion. Even with Kylie singing, that is a dreadful song.
If they're like bees, then it's some kind of 'Follow me, I can see a turd!' dance.
But then again, fighter pilots are told never to fly straight and level in a combat zone, so maybe they're re-incarnated fighter pilots? The ones that do fly straight and level get eaten by swallows etc.

Why the hell do they fly in squares, they never seem to turn gradually, just forward for a bit, 90 degree turn, repeat.
Strange things.
I once mentioned this very fact to Mrs. Tunku. She put on 'that' face, so I never mentioned it again.I still watch flies flying, and musing.Strange things.
They fly in squares because they can.. The design of their wings gives them incredible agility of flight..
Birds and butterflies are unable to turn anywhere near as quickly.. Preferring more sweeping turns..
When flies do it they are simply showboating their sharp handling to onlookers...
