Some great pictures there. Please help me though, I can't figure how to get the spot colours on the greyscale pictures. I have photoshop CS2 and all the Canon software but not knowing what it is called in photoshop I don't know what to look for in the help index. So go on, how do you do it?

nice pics but a bit heavy on the ps. am i the only one here who thinks the selective colour thing looks awful? it may have worked in schindlers list, but whenever i see it i can only think that the 'artist' has just read a tutorial and has to show everyone his new found skills... only one step away from fake lens flare, be careful! hurl not very creative or original imho, sorry.

to end on a positve note, a better way to do this is to use a masked hue/saturation/brightness layer (or set a white filled layer to 'colour' and mask it). that way you catch all the colours, not leaving any traces in the background and not desaturating any part of the subject.

I know what you mean about the spot colour, I think it can be good in some circumstances, and I don't think the picture I have used is right - it was one I took this evening which I thought worth playing with for the technique more than the result. I think the Aston picture looks good though - right subject colour and background for spot colour.

Spot colour is something everyone should learn how to do, then never ever use it again hehe. If you're trying to make something in the picture the focus of attention, that should be possible without it.

  1. 1 of the bicycle - WOW!!!
an incredible shot. Although i can't help but feel it should be 0.5 - 1 degree clockwise rotated.

I learnt of the HDR process recently and have applied it to some of my photos with success. Did you use that for the photo of the bicycle and the moped, Kurt?

If so, did you take several exposures of the scene to feed into the HDR processor?

If not, how did you achieve the effect you've used for the photo of the bicycle?

I really like that shot. Interesting subject and stylish processing.

Nope. I havent ventured into HDR, im only 15 so this is my first SLR and im no expert at photography so its something to ad to my 'to do' list. The effect was actually made by using Shadow and Highlight in Adobe Photoshop CS2. Give it a try.
