Assuming the helmet has the proper markings can either open-face or full-face be worn for any type of vehicle on the circuit whether racing or trackday?

I thought it was the other way round i.e. full face without a roof to stop track debris getting in your face.

I think that's the wrong way round. In an open car you need a full face helmet, and in a closed car you can use either an open face or full face helmet, as long as they meet the required standards.

And motorbike helmets arent acceptable for car racing, but some are for trackdays. (all to do with them not being fireproof on the inside or something)

I bought a cheap lid from these guys for the odd trackday and sprint.

Not quite true, both of my bike helmets (Vemar and Arai) both meet the BS6658-85A standard for MSA events. If you are required to have a lid to full FIA standards you won't be looking for a cheap one anywaywink

I was trying to think of the BS number, if it's type A as Slacey's are then they are fire proof and allowed as are helmets with the Snell mark although IIRC they are only valid for 5 years for MSA events, just stay away from other types

A couple of years back the bike helmet manufacturers dropped the BS mark and just showed the EU certificate. You had to pay twice the price for the same helmet with a BS number shown on it, as MSA wouldn't accept it unless it had the BS or FIA stamps on it.

look like I'm going to need a new lid if they are only vaid for 5 years.

Mine were scrutineered at two events within the last month or so and no mention was made of the age (both 8+ years old). I believe that the rule is that as long as they are in great condition they are OK.

Well it's as good as new.

Only used about 5 times on the back of my bro's bike.
