I see the other injection thread but this is a little different.

I have a 56 Moggie Minor running a 1275 Sprite engine of sorts with a single HIF44 ( I have a mini too smile ) I'm not really after a performance upgrade really just a little drivability etc.

Basically I have seen that a lot of people ditch the Mpi in favour of twin carbs etc but I want to go the other way and replace my carb with Mpi - the real question is can I simply bolt on the Mpi inlet with gubbin's, weld a lambda boss into my 3 into 1 and plug in the Mpi loom, ecu and related relays to make my Moggie go? ( obviously getting it all on the car is a bit more involved but you get the drift )

Thanks in advance.

You would need the MPi flywheel (crank position sensor) and cam sensor setup. Might be easier just to get a scrapped MPi engine with all the parts although you might be able to use a crank position sensor like mine or those supplied on trigger-wheels.com I am not sure if they will work with the rover ECU as they are a Ford type pattern 36-1. The MPi has a special cam with an extra lobe/nub acting as a position sensor that goes where the mechanical fuel pump used to be. You could probably chop down a distributer to get cam phase but again I am not sure how it would work with the Rover ECU.

These are the two obvious things I can see, but anything is possible :-)

I had noticed that looking through picks on ebay etc.

Sounds like a ball ache, I think I'll look closer at a different engine - K series, x16se or maybe Ford Zetec.

Thanks for help - saved me a lot of dikkin about.

I was at the kit car show yesterday and these guys were there. Claim to have solved the port issue with software. Their demo car seemed to be running nicely.

Might be worth a lok as it looks like it doesnt need the mpi special bits to run mpi setup.

Looking at the MG site I think K series is looking the best option, especially as how cheap old rovers are at the mo.

Thanks for the info - it's exactly what I wanted / needed to know.

I have a friend who has a 2.0 l Fiat twin-cam all aluminium lump in his Minor. It looks virtually standard as the only external visible diferences are the wheel widths and the exhaust pipe diameter. But, boy, does it go!
