front turbo induction pipe

having recently replaced all by water hoses and induction pipes for samco i must say i dont really like the flexi induction pipe to the front turbo.
i guess i have two options...
1) replace with a hard pipe and couple it up with a couple of samco joiners
2) move the air filter for the front turbo forward to the fire wall where it used to be located.
which is more preferable?
the relocation would be easier i think as all i would need to make is a bracket.
this would give one filter forwards and one staying rear in the intercooler box
any advice or thoughts would be great

Talk to Wayne at Proalloy, they do a hard pipe, but you will need to buy the header tank as well to make space for it.
if i went hard pipe i would make one myself to suit.`header tank i thought you mentioned to me last week you had a spare one you just needed to try and find it, or am i confusing you for someone else mate?

i recently, changed all my water hoses to blue samco as a few of the crappy rubber ones had perished.
that meant the engine bay was sort of half black (induction) and half blue samco(water).
been doing a few jobs lately, namely adding a set of defi oil press, temp and water temp, with defi display mounted as owen did his. also changed all the turbo oil hoses to shiney braided returns and bradied feeds in silver heat sheathing.
engine bay started to look quite nicely dressed so i opted to change the induction hoses to match the water and polish the hard pipes.
the only one left is the ribbed pipe from the intercooler box to the front turbo. firstly i dont think it fits in asthetically with the silicon plus i am not completely convinced about airflow down a ribbed pipe and the difference in tube lenghts when comparing front and rear turbos.
asthetics to one side, surely it is best if each run is the same length and down a smooth pipe. this, if true would mean surely the filter for the front turbo is better off moving forward?

I'm very happy with the results (and the general clean-up of the engine bay that goes along with the change). But in the U.S. that filter is now just inches from the driver's left ear so you have to like those intake sounds if you do this
.As for ribbed pipe vs. smooth--I'd be very surprised if that change has any measurable effect on performance. The air in that pipe is at atmospheric pressure and is not moving all that fast--I suspect the temp of the inlet charge is more important to performance.

With regard to the curly hose, on the dyno, in back to back test going from ribbed to smooth made 20bhp with no other changes. I dont know if it would make such a difference on lower powered engines but it must make some, it may be that i have found its flow limit.

will have to order the samco hoses to join up to the turbo but in the meantime will probably do a connection with a short piece of ribbed pipe

Now that was a suprise! I'm having trouble getting my head around that...most complete induction kits won't give that (admittedly on low bhp cars)Martin.
