Ferrari 348 owners in Yorkshire?
Discussion
Hello,
I was wondering if there were many 348 owners in the Yorkshire area? I ask as I'm very seriously thinking about now getting one a lot sooner than I first anticipated due to a very understanding wife and a chat I had with her this evening.
Would anyone with a 348 consider meeting up to show me round their car, tell me what to look out for, and possibly let me have a passenger ride with them one evening / weekend? A few people on here have met me on various meets that I've been on in the past, so know I'm not dodgy or anything like that.
Alternatively, does anyone know any local dealers (I'm in Leeds) who might stock them? JCT seem to only have more recent Ferraris.
Can anyone help? With the summer fast approaching, I'd really like to start looking seriously as soon as possible.

You came to one of the meets last summer didn't you Mark in that bundle of fun Clio of yours?
I am on my second F348. The first was a cracking Spider in Giallo yellow, and now I have returned, but this time to the purity of a LHD Berlinetta in Rosso Corsa.
Anything you want to ask, feel free, or if you want to schlep over to East Yorks I will happily take you out in it and let you have a good look around.
They are brilliant cars, cheap enough and mechanically simple enough to not be too scary, but still capable of 170mph plus combined with superbly neutral handling and a sound track that'll make you grin 'til your cheeks hurt.
We also have a very very competent expert local to us in the form of Talkwrench, who can help out with inspections and also servicing. He will be looking after mine and it is booked in for immediately after he has finished rebuilding the 850 for me
You do not need main dealer servicing on cars this old, just a full service book by someone known, trusted and respected.
If you are not fussy about the spec, i.e colour, TB (Berlinetta/coupe) versus TS (Targa) or which side the steering wheel is, then you can get a very good car for anywhere between £20k and £25k. Granted, there will be some not so good ones in there as well.
Mileage is not an issue with them as they are pretty robust with no known weak mechanical issues.
Around late 92 the 348 got upgraded 2.7 Motronic ignition and a few other very minor tweaks, such as the battery going to the front for better weight dist. The ignition was important to me as it will be getting chipped and the old one cannot do this, however, if you are not too bothered, and you are staring down the nose of an otherwise perfect condition and price car, I would certainly not ignore an earlier car. In late 93 they brought out the Spider, GTB and GTS which had more tweaks to the handling and was the basis of the upcoming 355. They also got an extra 20bhp, but again, this should not be a deal breaker if you cannot find one as in the real everyday world, the difference is not massively noticeable. The later cars will also be north of £25k.
There are two forums that may well be of help:
Ferrarichat.com - superb site with a lot of VERY helpful guys. US based but not an issue. I usually frequent the "General Ferrari" section and the "348/355" section. They do have a UK section also but beware, every forum has it's pillocks!
Clubscuderia.com - this is an offshoot from Ferrarichat and is UK based. Again, a lot of useful stuff and good helpful people ... ditto above on the pillocks though.
So, ask away, and if you're bored, pop over ... there's always hot water in the kettle, cold beer in the fridge and usually an even colder pizza knocking about in the freezer somewhere ... bring the wife too if you want and let her see for herself

Thanks all for such quick replies. Burriana, thats very kind of you to offer to help me out, and giving me all that information. Your car and garage look absolutely amazing - love the wheels you've got on it.
I'll send you a PM this morning as it'd be great to take you up on your kind offer, and I know the wife will understand a bit more if she can see one in the flesh.
PS - yes that was me with the clio last summer. It was indeed a bit of a handful and didn't stay in my hands for too long - swapped it for an S2000

S2000's are very capable cars and a lot of fun if you wring their necks to 9000 revs ... we had one as part of our "lead pack" on the very first MegaHoon back in 2004. He had my 348 Spider, Daz's 996 Turbo, Shady's DB9, Nubbins Tamora and Oggs' Chimaera all trying to hang onto his coat tails going up the Alpine hairpins until I said "how the hell are you getting round those corners so fast?" ... "1st gear" came the reply ... so that was the order of the day ...
1st gear, back end out, foot down, slam into 2nd, little chirp from the wheels, change into 3.... forget it, here's the next hairpin, down to 1st we go .... and repeat

Sorry, don't know anything about ferrari's (but I've got an official jacket if that helps LOL)
But after reading this topic had to start looking for 348's myself but came across this.
Seems fine, could your budget stretch to this?

Looks like a straight car and the price reflects the miles. High mileage cars are usually better because of it BUT, like it or not it does affect re-sale. If I bought that car, after 2 years it would have over 80k miles on it and would be VERY hard to move on, mainly through peoples' unfounded worries mind you.
If you are convinced you are going to keep the car long term then this becomes irrelevant, however, this is Mark's first Ferrari and he may keep it for a few years before upgrading, or he may keep it for a few months and decide it's not for him ... whichever way, as a very first Ferrari I would consider the re-sale factor as part of the mix.

In all honesty - probably not. Like Burrina says the higher milage on it would mean I would struggle to sell it on if / when the time came along. I'd prefer to get a 348 with a lot lower miles, and besides the side vents in a 348 *ROCK*.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/468240.htm

Last Tuesday one was screaming around West Hull. Red spider reg IAZ **** being driven like it was stolen.
Anyone on here?
Well, I know of a red Targa with a very similar plate (thought it was IEZ though).Anyone on here?
Unfortunately it has the distinction of having the worst number plate I have ever seen on a car let alone a Ferrari. It has been bastadised and distorted to say:
"I is a 348" wikkid innit
