The Beast is Back

After a winter off the road the MOT was passed today. A couple of advisories though and a minor bit of work done (tightened rear NS wheel bearing and quick adjustment to mixture). The advisories were tyres (awaiting delivery for them to be changed tomorrow) a small leak on the rear OS baffle box (custom stainless exhaust system with 4 tail pipes) and small amount of play in NS steering rack.

It is the last bit that I am trying to get info on - I know there have been several threads on steering racks and have read these - mainly cover type (eg chevette) removal and refitting etc, but has anyone actually undertaken a refurb on one themselves and have details of the jointing arrangement under the rubber boot. Not a job for tomorrow, but for down the line as looseness is only likely to get worse.

Despite the above the smile is back

Is it definitely the rack? The reason I ask is that I had advisories for the steering rack on mine for the first 2 MOTs but it turned out to be a track rod end that was worn. It wasn't through lack of investigation on the part of the MOT man either, it just wasn't easy to feel where the play was. Track ends work out a lot cheaper than a recon rack as well.

Track rod end was replaced last year so unlikely
