I am currently restoring a 1981 Fiesta XR2 and having a bit of trouble getting the thing to start and idle right.
Once it starts, it revs up to about 3k revs. Naturally I don't want this happening from cold!
I am assuming its a carb problem, of which it has a twin choke Webber variety. Auto choke.
If anyone has some literature on this or can offer help, I would be very gratefull.
Thanks in advance.

First off, check all the vac/breather pipes to make sure none are split and bleeding air past the carb. If they are ok, check the throttle cable for free play, and reset the idle speed screw to lower the engine speed. Then do as anodominii suggests and check the timing. Set the co% last. You can do this by ear roughly, by turning the mixture screw in all the way until the engine starts to cut out/run rough, then wind it out progressively until it evens out and the idle is at its highest. Once it gets to that point wind it out one further turn, it shouldnt be too far away at that setting. And then reset the idle speed using the idle screw.
