Boat booked into the ARC2008 now.....

So this winter's sailing is sorted:-
Southampton - Canaries
Canaries - Caribbean
Then the interesting decisions....
Caribbean - Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro - Buenos Aires
Then.... New Zealand - Oz - Asia - Up through to the East Med and back...
Or....
Buenos Aires - Canaries
Canaries - Gibraltar
Gibraltar - Med circuit
Med circuit - Gibraltar
Gibraltar - Southampton
Or....
Caribbean circuit - Ending Miami
Miami - New York
New York - Boston
Boston - Southampton (winter crossing so interesting one!)
Or....
Vanish never to be seen again circling the planet!
So will be leaving Southampton early October, can't wait... just a bit of final boat prep to finish!

Did the ARC in 1999 following graduation and I can say it is an Epic trip, I crewed on an Oyster 46 but have plans to do it at some point in our 38ft boat.
Getting the boat down there is normally the most challenging thing, I would look to do the ABC Islands and then through the Panama Canal, Galapogos and then the Pacific but if you have no real time constraints go where you like. At least if you go around one of the Capes you will be able to put one elbow on the table whilst dining.
What size boat have you got and what kit has she got? How many crew you thinking about using?

Boat is 72ft, it's already been round the world up hill twice on the Global Challenge, coded to Cat 0, so well proven and as safe as any boat can realistically be.
Will be taking the cape routes if I get time to go all the way round, no sense in doing it the easy way is there, adventure of a lifetime and all.
Most of the time there will be between 8 and 12 people onboard so just enough to sail her.
Paying places are available on all the legs for those feeling like a real adventure!

One of my ships has taken part in the ARC a couple of times but at 65m, she was in the Open Class.
We haven't formally been part of the ARC for a few years now, but as we cross the pond at about the same time we end up being 'International Rescue' for yachts in trouble. I think our crew are now on first name terms with MRCC Fort de France.

Yes the TSYT's new fleet of challenger yachts will be far better at this sort of thing than their brig or the JST's barques. TENACIOUS was too big to get into Las Palmas marina and Jolly Harbour in St. Lucia so we were a bit out of the fun. That's the reason for not taking part any more.
Where will you be based in Southampton in October? Maybe pop around, tie up alongside us for an evening and have a couple of jars. As you know, it's obligatory to go sea with a hangover

Not sure how long you spent around the Carib on your first trip back in 99' , ( I did 98 ). But its well worth spending a season or 2 up and down the Island as you still find find new and exiting places even after 5 years of living there all year round .
Quick note if you need any proper professional permanent crew give me a shout as i have a great couple looking at the moment , i have known them for a good while .
My sister was on Barclays , and I good friends with a lot of the early 67ft teams .
