Springs

I have found that one of my rear springs is broken, as the shocks are still good I intend replacing both rear springs. I have measured them as 2 1/2" I/D and 10 1/2" free length does anyone know what strength they were as standard. They aso look to be a progressive spring can anyone confirm this. Can anyone recommend any springs or suppliers. I may be being a bit tight but £87 a pair from tvrcarparts seems a bit steep. Car is an S3 running on Koni adjustable shocks.

I think the variable rate springs are only available from Tvrcarparts - but bear in mind that your original shocks are unlikely to be much cop by now - plus you'll have to budget for some tools to remove and replace the springs off the old shocks - and its a pig of a job.

All other springs I found (and that I now have) are single rate.

I tried to do it on the cheap with a used set of AVO dampers, another new set and some new springs. By the time I had finished messing about I honestly wished I'd just bit the bullet and bought a new full set of shocks and springs from the Gaz Man or somewhere.

If you go for new shocks / springs you don't need any tools to remove / replace the springs which offsets the cost a fraction.

The car has done less than 30,000 miles and the shocks are in excellent condition. I did consider changing the full set up but it just seemed a bit OTT considering I had no intention of touching the suspension until I found the broken spring. I have some spring compressors and have already removed the springs so I can't save on that one. Do you know what poundage the rear springs are?

My single rate rears I think are 275, the plan was for 300's but there seemed to be some difficulty getting them.
Mine is a V8S but I can't see it being all that different.
You'll also be pleased to know I chucked away all my old V8S springs! You could have had them. I had even resprayed them too!
Is it worth a forum ask to see if anyone has a couple of old springs kicking about?

Just my luck! Thanks for the info I will try to source some 275lb plain springs should get me away from the low rider look.

£87 for a spring - thats nothing I paid £124 or was it a kidney for 8 Koni bushes from the forementioned company - mind you I think they are made out of hens teeth and dodo bird skin.
